Get Uncomfortable

When was the last time you did something that was outside of your normal routine? We are so accustomed to our daily routines and going through the motions, when was the last time we stepped out of our comfort zone? We’re creatures of habit. We hear about breaking bad habits but what if we don’t realize our daily routines are our bad habits?

Being uncomfortable teaches us things about ourselves we otherwise wouldn’t have known. In different social situations, discomfort sets in based on who’s there, what the topic of discussion is, among many other elements. Discomfort even comes from the clothes we wear around certain people. So, do it! Get uncomfortable. Doing things that aren’t “normal” for you is how you grow. It’s how you learn. It’s how you become a more well-rounded individual.

We are so accustomed to doing what makes us happy. Makes us feel safe. Why? Every time we have the opportunity to do something new, we should jump on it. What if we never get that opportunity again? We should be able to say that we take chances and make the most of every opportunity that comes our way.

We need to get uncomfortable. We need to learn about things we don’t already know. When’s the last time you had a conversation with someone about a topic that made you feel uncomfortable? What about a topic you didn’t completely understand? Each day we should do something that gets us out of our comfort zones. Push the limits of what makes you comfortable. Meet people with who we normally wouldn’t align ourselves with. Go somewhere you’ve never been.

Get uncomfortable.
